TOUR DU MONT BLANC
The Guide to Camping

TOP TIPS BEFORE YOU LEAVE
HERE ARE A FEW TIPS THAT WILL HELP YOU PREPARE FOR THE TMB:
-
Pack as light as possible - Trust me you don't want to be hauling a 20kg backpack up a 1500m ascent. Aim to keep your backpack under 10kg (excluding water and food), a 30-40l backpack will be adequate.
-
Buy a sturdy lightweight tent - Obviously a tent is very important if you are going to camp, so ensure that you have a tent that can cope with all weather conditions.
-
Don't forget a sleeping mat - This was my number one mistake, there is nothing worse than sleeping on a cold damp hard floor. A cheap foam sleeping mat will do just fine.
-
Invest in a water bladder - Do you really want to be struggling getting that crushed water bottle out of your side pocket?
-
No demin - Make sure you only pack super light quick-drying clothes.
-
Improve your fitness - Ensure you have some basic fitness already, this will make the walk more enjoyable.
-
Pack in dry bags - Dry bags will keep all your items dry, organised and easier to find.
-
Walking poles - These are a must and will save your knees especially when going downhill.
-
Buy some decent socks - Your feet are the most important during this trip so ensure that you have good walking socks, I'd personally recommend Merino Wool socks and a pair of thin liner socks.
-
Most importantly - HAVE FUN, SMILE, TAKE PHOTOS, BE SOCIABLE, WRITE A BLOG..
